The event of Mubahilah took place in the 9th year of Hijra. A deputation of 14 Christian (najran) scholars came to discuss the truth of Islam with the Holy Prophet (sa) Arguments were put forward by both sides. Several days went by The Christians did not listen to reason. Then Allah revealed the following verses:  

     “Verily, the likeness of E’essa /Jesus with Allah is as the likeness of Adam. He created him of dust, then He said unto him:” Be, and he was” (This is ) the truth from your Lord (O Muhammad), so be not of those who doubt. And whoso disputes with you concerning him after the knowledge which has come unto you, say (unto them): “Come We will summon our sons and you your sons, and our women and you your women, and our ‘selfs’ and your ‘selfs’, and then will pray humbly (to the Lord) and invoke the curse of Allah upon those who lie. (The Holy Quran, 3:58-61 ) 

 

“To those that argue with you concerning Jesus after the knowledge you have received say: ‘Come, let us gather our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves. We will pray together and call down the curse of Allah on every liar’.” [Glorious Quran Chapter 3 verse 61]

In the year 9 AH Prophet Mohamed (SAW) wrote to the heads of different tribes and countries of the world inviting them to Islam. One of the letters was written to the Christian community of Najran. A large delegation was appointed to go to meet the Prophet (SAW). Warmly welcomed by the Prophet (SAW). they were put up in one part of the mosque where they were allowed to perform their prayers comfortably.

They asked the Prophet (SAW). What he thought of Jesus and he said: “He was a human being created by God and was a prophet.” .“Have you ever seen any child born in this world without a father?” they asked. The Prophet (SAW) replied: “Jesus is like Adam in the sight of Allah. He created him from dust and then said to him ‘be’ and he was.” [Glorious Quran Chapter 3 verse 59]

They could not answer his argument, but continued to debate the issue. Then the ayah (verse) inviting them to a “Mubahila” was revealed. When real arguments fail to produce the desired effect, then to wish for the intervention of Allah’s judgement in order to sift the right from wrong, is called Mubahila. The Christians of Najran accepted the challenge and at the appointed hour arrived at the place where the Mubahila was going to take place.

The Holy Prophet (saws) put on a cloak and embraced Imam `Ali, Lady Fatimah al-Zahra, Imam al-Hassan, and Imam al-Husayn—peace be upon them—and prayed to Almighty Allah, saying, “O Allah, verily, each Prophet had a family members whom were the nearest to him. O Allah, these are my Household; so, (please do) remove uncleanness from them and purify them with thorough purification.” Immediately after that, Archangel Gabriel descended carrying the Verse of Purification.(33:33) 

Then, the Holy Prophet (s) accompanied his family members as his partners in the process of invoking Almighty Allah’s curse upon the lying party. As soon as the Christians’ eyes fell on the Holy Prophet’s household, they realized that those individuals were the most truthful and that chastisement would be the share of any one who would oppose them. They therefore did not dare to participate in that invocation of curse and, instead, they agreed to pay a tribute (jizyah) to the Holy Prophet (s).

Abu Harith said:“I see such faces that if they raise their hands in supplication and pray to God that the biggest mountain may be moved from its place, the same will happen immediately. We should in no circumstance engage in a Mubahila with these sacred people because it is possible that not even one of us may remain alive on the face of the earth.”

Who are the ‘Ahlul Bayt of the Prophet (pbuh)’ & 4. The relationship of Al-Qur’an and the Ahlul Bayt a.s.)

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ بَهَائِكَ بِبْهَاهُ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min bah¡’ika bi-abh¡hu

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your brilliance that beautifies,

وَكُلُّ بَهَائِكَ بَهِيٌّ

wa kullu bah¡’ika bahiyyun

and all Your glories are radiantly brilliant.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِبَهَائِكَ كُلِّهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bibah¡’ika kullih¢

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all Your glories.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ جَلاَلِكَ بِجَلِّهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min jal¡lika bi-ajallih¢

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your majesty that gives grandeur,

وَكُلُّ جَلاَلِكَ جَليلٌ

wa kullu jal¡lika jal¢lun

and all Your majestic powers are strongly sublime.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِجَلاَلِكَ كُلِّهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bijal¡lika kullih¢

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all Your powers.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ جَمَالِكَ بِجْمَلِهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min jam¡lika bi-ajmalih¢

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your refined good that makes more handsome,

وَكُلُّ جَمَالِكَ جَميلٌ

wa kullu jam¡lika jam¢lun

and all Your refinements are gracefully beautiful.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِجَمَالِكَ كُلِّهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bijam¡lika kullih¢

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all Your beauties.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي دْعُوكَ كَمَا مَرْتَنِي

all¡humma inn¢ ad`£ka kam¡ amartan¢

O Allah, I am praying You as You have ordered me to do;

فَٱسْتَجِبْ لِي كَمَا وَعَدْتَنِي

fastajib l¢ kam¡ wa`adtan¢

so, please respond to me as You have promised.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ عَظَمَتِكَ بِعْظَمِهَا

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min `a¨amatika bi-a`¨amih¡

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your greatness that makes great,

وَكُلُّ عَظَمَتِكَ عَظَيمَةٌ

wa kullu `a¨amatika `a¨¢matun

and all Your powers are extensively important.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِعَظَمَتِكَ كُلِّهَا

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bi`a¨amatika kullih¡

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all Your influences.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي اَسْلُكَ مِنْ نُورِكَ بِنْوَرِهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min n£rika bi-anwarihi

O Allah, I beseech You to give me from Your light that enlightens,

وَكُلُّ نُورِكَ نَيِّرٌ

wa kullu n£rika nayyirun

and all Your enlightenments are luminously bright.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِنُورِكَ كُلِّهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bin£rika kullihi

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all Your lights.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ بِوْسَعِهَا

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min rahmatika bi-awsa`ih¡

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your mercy that gives much,

وَكُلُّ رَحْمَتِكَ وَاسِعَةٌ

wa kullu rahmatika w¡si`atun

and all Your kind leniencies are plenteously many.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ كُلِّهَا

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka birahmatika kullih¡

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all Your compassions.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي دْعُوكَ كَمَا مَرْتَنِي

all¡humma inn¢ ad`£ka kam¡ amartan¢

O Allah, I am praying You as You have ordered me to do;

فَٱسْتَجِبْ لِي كَمَا وَعَدْتَنِي

fastajib l¢ kam¡ wa`adtan¢

so, please respond to me as You have promised.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ كَمَالِكَ بِكْمَلِهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min kam¡lika bi-akmalih¢

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your perfection that brings to fullness,

وَكُلُّ كَمَالِكَ كَامِلٌ

wa kullu kam¡lika k¡milun

and all Your perfections are total and whole.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِكَمَالِكَ كُلِّهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bikam¡lika kullih¢

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all Your perfections.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي اَسْلُكَ مِنْ كَلِمَاتِكَ بِتَمِّهَا

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min kalim¡tika bi-atammih¡

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your Words that elaborate and conclude;

وَكُلُّ كَلِمَاتِكَ تَامَّةٌ

wa kullu kalim¡tika t¡mmatun

and all Your words are complete and perfect.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِكَلِمَاتِكَ كُلِّهَا

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bikalim¡tika kullih¡

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all Your Words.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ سْمَائِكَ بِكْبَرِهَا

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min asm¡’ika bi-akbarih¡

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your Names that make great,

وَكُلُّ سْمَائِكَ كَبيرَةٌ

wa kullu asm¡’ika kab¢ratun

and all Your Names are important.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِسْمَائِكَ كُلِّهَا

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bi-asm¡’ika kullih¡

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all Your Names.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي دْعُوكَ كَمَا مَرْتَنِي

all¡humma inn¢ ad`£ka kam¡ amartan¢

O Allah, I am praying You as You have ordered me to do;

فَٱسْتَجِبْ لِي كَمَا وَعَدْتَنِي

fastajib l¢ kam¡ wa`adtan¢

so, please respond to me as You have promised.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ عِزَّتِكَ بِعَزِّهَا

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min `izzatika bi-a`azzih¡

O Allah, I beseech You to give me from Your authority that surpasses in honor and power,

وَكُلُّ عِزَّتِكَ عَزيزَةٌ

wa kullu `izzatika `az¢zatun

and all Your authorities are rare and supreme.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِعِزَّتِكَ كُلِّهَا

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bi`izzatika kullih¡

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all Your authorities.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ مَشِيَّتِكَ بِمْضَاهَا

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min mashiyyatika bi-am¤¡h¡

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your Will that (simultaneously) takes effect,

وَكُلُّ مَشِيَّتِكَ مَاضِيَةٌ

wa kullu mashiyyatika m¡¤iyatun

and all Your wills are (at once) executed.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِمَشِيَّتِكَ كُلِّهَا

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bimashiyyatika kullih¡

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all Your wills.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ ٱلَّتِي ٱسْتَطَلْتَ بِهَا عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min qudratika bilqudrati allat¢ ista§alta bih¡ `al¡ kulli shay’in

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your that omnipotence which controls everything,

وَكُلُّ قُدْرَتِكَ مُسْتَطيلَةٌ

wa kullu qudratika musta§¢latun

and at all events Your omnipotence dominates.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ كُلِّهَا

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka biqudratika kullih¡

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of Your all-embracing omnipotence.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي دْعُوكَ كَمَا مَرْتَنِي

all¡humma inn¢ ad`£ka kam¡ amartan¢

O Allah, I am praying You as You have ordered me to do;

فَٱسْتَجِبْ لِي كَمَا وَعَدْتَنِي

fastajib l¢ kam¡ wa`adtan¢

so, please respond to me as You have promised.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ عِلْمِكَ بِنْفَذِهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min `ilmika bi-anfadhih¢

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your Wisdom that pierces through and enforces,

وَكُلُّ عِلْمِكَ نَافِذٌ

wa kullu `ilmika n¡fidhun

and Your Wisdom is altogether effective.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ كُلِّهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bi`ilmika kullih¢

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of Your Wisdom.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ قَوْلِكَ بِرْضَاهُ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min qawlika bi-ar¤¡hu

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your promise which always is fulfilled,

وَكُلُّ قَوْلِكَ رَضِيٌّ

wa kullu qawlika ra¤iyyun

and all Your promises are kept and fulfilled.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِقَوْلِكَ كُلِّهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka biqawlika kullih¢

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all Your promises.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ مَسَائِلِكَ بِحَبِّهَا إِلَيْكَ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min mas¡’ilika bi-ahabbih¡ ilayka

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your Channels which are most dear to You,

وَكُلُّهَا إِلَيْكَ حَبيبةٌ

wa kullu mas¡’ilika ilayka hab¢batun

and all that which is dear to You is most desirable.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِمَسَائِلِكَ كُلِّهَا

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bimas¡’ilika kullih¡

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all Your Channels.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي دْعُوكَ كَمَا مَرْتَنِي

all¡humma inn¢ ad`£ka kam¡ amartan¢

O Allah, I am praying You as You have ordered me to do;

فَٱسْتَجِبْ لِي كَمَا وَعَدْتَنِي

fastajib l¢ kam¡ wa`adtan¢

so, please respond to me as You have promised.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ شَرَفِكَ بِشْرَفِهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min sharafika bi-ashrafih¢

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your distinctions that vie in glory,

وَكُلُّ شَرَفِكَ شَريفٌ

wa kullu sharafika shar¢fun

and all Your distinctions are noble.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِشَرَفِكَ كُلِّهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bisharafika kullih¢

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all Your distinctions.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ سُلْطَانِكَ بِدْوَمِهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min sul§¡nika bi-adwamih¢

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your sovereignty which lasts and continues forever,

وَكُلُّ سُلطَانِكَ دَائِمٌ

wa kullu sul§¡nika d¡’imun

and for all times Your sovereignty is everlasting.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِسُلْطَانِكَ كُلِّهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bisul§¡nika kullih¢

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of Your absolute sovereignty.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ مُلْكِكَ بِفْخَرِهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min mulkika bi-afkharih¢

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your kingdom that surpasses in glory and nobility,

وَكُلُّ مُلْكِكَ فَاخِرٌ

wa kullu mulkika f¡khirun

and in reality Your kingdom alone is the most celebrated and magnificent.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِمُلْكِكَ كُلِّهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bimulkika kullih¢

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of Your unlimited kingdom.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي دْعُوكَ كَمَا مَرْتَنِي

all¡humma inn¢ ad`£ka kam¡ amartan¢

O Allah, I am praying You as You have ordered me to do;

فَٱسْتَجِبْ لِي كَمَا وَعَدْتَنِي

fastajib l¢ kam¡ wa`adtan¢

so, please respond to me as You have promised.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ عَلاَئِكَ بِعْلاَهُ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min `al¡’ika bi-a`l¡hu

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your highness that is supreme

وَكُلُّ عَلاَئِكَ عَال

wa kullu `al¡’ika `¡lin

and all Your highness is supreme.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِعَلاَئِكَ كُلِّهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bi`al¡’ika kullih¢

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all of Your highness.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ آيَاتِكَ بِعْجَبِهَا

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min ¡y¡tika bi-a`jabih¡

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your signs which are astonishing,

وَكُلُّ آيَاتِكَ عَجيبَةٌ

wa kullu ¡y¡tika `aj¢batun

and all Your signs are astonishing.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِآيََاتِكَ كُلِّهَا

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bi-¡y¡tika kullih¡

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all Your signs.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ مَنِّكَ بِقْدَمِهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min mannika bi-aqdamih¢

O Allah, I ask You to give me from Your bounties which always move ahead, come in advance,

وَكُلُّ مَنِّكَ قَديمٌ

wa kullu mannika qad¢mun

and all Your bounties are eternal.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِمَنِّكَ كُلِّهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bimannika kullih¢

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all Your bounties.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي دْعُوكَ كَمَا مَرْتَنِي

all¡humma inn¢ ad`£ka kam¡ amartan¢

O Allah, I am praying You as You have ordered me to do;

فَٱسْتَجِبْ لِي كَمَا وَعَدْتَنِي

fastajib l¢ kam¡ wa`adtan¢

so, please respond to me as You have promised.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِمَا نْتَ فيهِ مِنَ ٱلشُّؤُونِ وَٱلْجَبَرُوتِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bim¡ anta f¢hi min alshshu’£ni waljabar£ti

O Allah, I ask You to give me whereby You exercises absolute authorities and power,

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِكُلِّ شَانٍ وَكُلِّ جَبَرُوتٍ

wa as’aluka bikulli sha’nin wa kulli jabar£tin

I beseech You in the name of (Your) total omnipotence, and total authority.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِمَا تُجيبُنِي بِهِ حينَ سْلُكَ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bim¡ tuj¢bun¢ bih¢ h¢na as’aluka

O Allah, I ask You to give me whereby You gives answer to my supplication whenever I turn to You.

يَا اللَّهُ يَا لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ نْتَ

y¡ all¡hu y¡ l¡ il¡ha ill¡ anta

O Allah save Whom there is no god!

سْلُكَ بِبَهَاءِ لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ نْتَ

as’aluka bibah¡’i l¡ il¡ha ill¡ anta

I beseech You in the name of the brilliance of ‘there is no god save You’.

يَا لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ نْتَ

y¡ l¡ il¡ha ill¡ anta

O He save Whom there is no god,

سْلُكَ بِجَلاَلِ لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ نْتَ

as’aluka bijal¡li l¡ il¡ha ill¡ anta

I beseech You in the name of the majesty of ‘there is no god save You’.

يَا لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ نْتَ

y¡ l¡ il¡ha ill¡ anta

O He save Whom there is no god,

سْلُكَ بِلاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ نْتَ

as’aluka bil¡ il¡ha ill¡ anta

I beseech You in the name of ‘there is no god save You’.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي دْعُوكَ كَمَا مَرْتَنِي

all¡humma inn¢ ad`£ka kam¡ amartan¢

O Allah, I am praying You as You have ordered me to do;

فَٱسْتَجِبْ لِي كَمَا وَعَدْتَنِي

fastajib l¢ kam¡ wa`adtan¢

so, please respond to me as You have promised.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ رِزْقِكَ بِعَمِّهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min rizqika bi-a`ammih¢

O Allah, I beseech You to grant me from the most widespread of Your sustenance;

وَكُلُّ رِزْقِكَ عَامُّ

wa kullu rizqika `¡mmun

and all Your sustenance is widespread.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِرِزْقِكَ كُلِّهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka birizqika kullih¢

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of Your whole sustenance.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ عَطَائِكَ بِهْنَئِهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min `a§¡’ika bi-ahna’ih¢

O Allah, I beseech You to grant me from the most wholesome of Your bestowal;

وَكُلُّ عَطَائِكَ هَنِيءٌ

wa kullu `a§¡’ika han¢’un

and Your entire bestowal is wholesome.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِعَطَائِكَ كُلِّهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bi`a§¡’ika kullih¢

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of Your entire bestowal.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِكَ بِعْجَلِهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min khayrika bi-a`jalih¢

O Allah, I beseech You to grant me from Your most instant welfare;

وَكُلُّ خَيْرِكَ عَاجِلٌ

wa kullu khayrika `¡jilun

and Your entire welfare is instant.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِخَيْرِكَ كُلِّهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bikhayrika kullih¢

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of Your entire welfare.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ بِفْضَلِهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka min fa¤lika bi-af¤alih¢

O Allah, I beseech You to grant me from the best of Your favors;

وَكُلُّ فَضْلِكَ فَاضِلٌ

wa kullu fa¤lika f¡¤ilun

and all Your favors are excellent.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي سْلُكَ بِفَضْلِكَ كُلِّهِ

all¡humma inn¢ as’aluka bifa¤lika kullih¢

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of Your whole favor.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي دْعُوكَ كَمَا مَرْتَنِي

all¡humma inn¢ ad`£ka kam¡ amartan¢

O Allah, I am praying You as You have ordered me to do;

فَٱسْتَجِبْ لِي كَمَا وَعَدْتَنِي

fastajib l¢ kam¡ wa`adtan¢

so, please respond to me as You have promised.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

all¡humma ¥alli `al¡ muhammadin wa ¡li muhammadin

O Allah, send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱبْعَثْنِي عَلَىٰ ٱلإِيـمَانِ بِكَ

wab`athn¢ `al¡ al-¢m¡ni bika

and resurrect me carrying belief in You,

وَٱلتَّصْدِيقِ بِرَسُولِكَ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ ٱلسَّلاَمُ

waltta¥d¢qi bras£lika `alayhi wa ¡lih¢ alssal¡mu

giving credence to Your Messenger, peace be upon him and his Household,

وَٱلْوِلاَيَةِ لِعَلِيِّ بْنِ بِي طَالِبٍ

walwil¡yati li`aliyyi bni ab¢ §¡libin

being loyal to `Al¢ ibn Ab¢-±¡lib,

وَٱلْبَرَاءَةِ مِنْ عَدُوِّهِ

walbar¡’ati min `aduwwih¢

disclaiming his enemies,

وَٱلاِﹾئْتِمَامِ بِٱلئِمَّةِ مِنْ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

wa al-i’tim¡mi bil-a’immati min ¡li muhammadin

and accepting the leadership of the Imams from Muhammad’s Household,

عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّلاَمُ

`alayhimu alssal¡mu

peace be upon them,

فَإِنِّي قَدْ رَضِيتُ بِذٰلِكَ يَا رَبِّ

fa’inn¢ qad ra¤¢tu bidhalika y¡ rabbi

for I am pleased with that, O my Lord.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ

all¡humma ¥alli `al¡ muhammadin

O Allah, send blessings to Muhammad,

عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُولِكَ فِي ٱلوَّلينَ

`abdika wa ras£lika f¢ al-awwal¢na

Your servant and Messenger, among the ancient ones,

وَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ فِي ٱلآخِرِينَ

wa ¥alli `al¡ muhammadin f¢ al-¡khir¢na

send blessings to Muhammad among the later ones,

وَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ فِي ٱلْمَلأِ ٱلعْلَىٰ

wa ¥alli `al¡ muhammadin f¢ almala’i al-a`l¡

send blessings to Muhammad in the Highest Chiefs,

وَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ فِي ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

wa ¥alli `al¡ muhammadin f¢ almursal¢na

and send blessings to Muhammad among the Missioned Prophets.

اَللَّهُمَّ عْطِ مُحَمَّداً ٱلْوَسيلَةَ

all¡humma a`§i muhammadan alwas¢lata

O Allah, grant Muhammad [the right of] mediation,

وَٱلشَّرَفَ وَٱلْفَضِيلَةَ

walshsharafa walfa¤¢lata

honor, precedence,

وَٱلدَّرَجَةَ ٱلْكَبيرَةَ

walddarajata alkab¢rata

and great rank.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

all¡humma ¥alli `al¡ muhammadin wa ¡li muhammadin

O Allah, send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَقَنِّعْنِي بِمَا رَزَقْتَنِي

wa qanni`n¢ bim¡ razaqtan¢

make me satisfied with the sustenance You have given me,

وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا آتَيْتَنِي

wa b¡rik l¢ f¢m¡ a`taytan¢

bless me in what You have granted me,

وَٱحْفَظْنِي فِي غَيْبَتِي

wahfa¨n¢ f¢ ghaybat¢

safeguard me during my absence [from home],

وَكُلِّ غَائِبٍ هُوَ لِي

wa kulli gh¡’ibin huwa l¢

and safeguard every absent one that is related to me.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

all¡humma ¥alli `al¡ muhammadin wa ¡li muhammadin

O Allah, send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَٱبْعَثْنِي عَلَىٰ ٱلإِيـمَانِ بِكَ

wab`athn¢ `al¡ al’¢m¡ni bika

resurrect me carrying belief in You

وَٱلتَّصْدِيقِ بِرَسُولِكَ

waltta¥d¢qi biras£lika

and giving credence to Your Messenger.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

all¡humma ¥alli `al¡ muhammadin wa ¡li muhammadin

O Allah, send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَسْلُكَ خَيْرَ ٱلْخَيْرِ رِضْوَانَكَ وَٱلْجَنَّةَ

wa as’aluka khayra alkhayri ri¤w¡naka waljannata

and I beseech You for the best of goodness: Your pleasure and Paradise,

وَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ ٱلشَرِّ سَخَطِكَ وَٱلنَّارِ

wa a`£dhu bika min sharri alshsharri sakha§ika walnn¡ri

and I pray for Your protecting me against the worst of evil: Your wrath and Hellfire.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

all¡humma ¥alli `al¡ muhammadin wa ¡li muhammadin

O Allah, send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱحْفَظْنِىٰ مِنْ كُلِّ مُصِيبَةٍ

wahfa¨n¢ min kulli mu¥¢batin

and protect me against every misfortune,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ بَلِيَّةٍ

wa min kulli baliyyatin

every tribulation,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ عُقُوبَةٍ

wa min kulli `uq£batin

every punishment,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ فِتْنَةٍ

wa min kulli fitnatin

every trial,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ بَلاَءٍ

wa min kulli bal¡’in

every ordeal,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ شَرٍّ

wa min kulli sharrin

every evil,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ مَكْرُوهٍ

wa min kulli makr£hin

every mishap,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ مُصِيبَةٍ

wa min kulli mu¥¢batin

every misfortune,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ آفَةٍ نَزَلَتْ

wa min kulli ¡fatin nazalat

and every bane that has been caused to descend

وْ تَنْزِلُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاءِ إِلَىٰ ٱلرْضِ

aw tanzilu min alssam¡’i il¡ al-ar¤i

or will be caused to descend from the heavens to the earth,

فِي هٰذِهِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ

f¢ h¡dhih¢ alss¡`ati

at this hour,

وَفِي هٰذِهِ ٱللَّيْلَةِ

wa f¢ h¡dhih¢ allaylati

at this night,

وَفِي هٰذَا ٱلْيَومِ

wa f¢ h¡dh¡ alyawmi

on this day,

وَفِي هٰذَا ٱلشَّهْرِ

wa f¢ h¡dh¡ alshshahri

in this month,

وَفِي هٰذِهِ ٱلسَّنَةِ

wa f¢ h¡dhih¢ alssanati

and in this year.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

all¡humma ¥alli `al¡ muhammadin wa ¡li muhammadin

O Allah, send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱقْسِمْ لِي مِنْ كُلِّ سُرُورٍ

waqsim l¢ min kulli sur£rin

and grant me part of every pleasure,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ بَهْجَةٍ

wa min kulli bahjatin

every delight,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ ٱسْتِقَامَةٍ

wa min kulli istiq¡matin

every uprightness,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ فَرَجٍ

wa min kulli farajin

every relief,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَافِيَةٍ

wa min kulli `¡fiyatin

every wellbeing,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ سَلاَمَةٍ

wa min kulli sal¡matin

every safety,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ كَرَامَةٍ

wa min kulli kar¡matin

every honoring,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ رِزْقٍ وَاسِعٍ

wa min kulli rizqin w¡si`in

every sustenance that is expansive,

حَلاَلٍ طَيِّبٍ

hal¡lin §ayyibin

legally-gotten, and wholesome,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ نِعْمَةٍ

wa min kulli ni`matin

every grace,

وِمَنْ كُلِّ سَعَة نَزَلَتْ

wa min kulli sa`atin nazalat

and every affluence that has been caused to descend

وْ تَنْزِلُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاءِ إِلَىٰ ٱلرْضِ

aw tanzilu min alssam¡’i il¡ al-ar¤i

or will be caused to descend from the heavens to the earth,

فِي هٰذِهِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ

f¢ h¡dhih¢ alss¡`ati

at this hour,

وَفِي هٰذِهِ ٱللَّيْلَةِ

wa f¢ h¡dhih¢ allaylati

at this night,

وَفِي هٰذَا ٱلْيَوْمِ

wa f¢ h¡dh¡ alyawmi

on this day,

وَفِي هٰذَا ٱلشَّهْرِ

wa f¢ h¡dh¡ alshshahri

in this month,

وَفِي هٰذِهِ ٱلسَّنَةِ

wa f¢ h¡dhih¢ alssanati

and in this year.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كَانَتْ ذُنُوبِي

all¡humma in k¡nat dhun£b¢

O Allah, if my sins

قَدْ خْلَقَتْ وَجْهِي عِنْدَكَ

qad akhlaqat wajh¢ `indaka

have worn out my face in Your sight,

وَحَالَتْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ

wa h¡lat bayn¢ wa baynaka

intervened between You and me,

وَغَيَّرَتْ حَالِي عِنْدَكَ

wa ghayyarat h¡l¢ `indaka

and changed my state with You,

فَإِنِّي سْلُكَ بِنُورِ وَجْهِكَ ٱلَّذِي لاَ يُطْفَا

fa’inn¢ as’aluka bin£ri wajhika alladh¢ l¡ yu§fa’u

so, I beseech You in the name of the Light of Your Face that is never extinguished,

وَبِوَجْهِ مُحَمَّدٍ حَبِيبِكَ ٱلْمُصْطَفَىٰ

wa biwajhi muhammadin hab¢bika almu¥§af¡

in the name of the face of Muhammad, Your chosen and most beloved of You,

وَبِوَجْهِ وَلِيِّكَ عَلِيٍّ ٱلْمُرْتَضَىٰ

wa biwajhi waliyyika `aliyyin almurta¤¡

in the name of the face of `Al¢, Your most pleased intimate servant,

وَبِحَقِّ وْلِيَائِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱنْتَجَبْتَهُمْ

wa bihaqqi awliy¡’ika alladh¢na intajabtahum

and in the name of Your saints whom You have selected [for Yourself]

نْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

an tu¥alliya `al¡ muhammadin wa ¡li muhammadin

to send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَنْ تَغْفِرَ لِي مَا مَضَىٰ مِنْ ذُنُوبِي

wa an taghfira l¢ m¡ ma¤¡ min dhun£b¢

and forgive me all of my past sins,

وَنْ تَعْصِمَنِي فِيمَا بَقِيَ مِنْ عُمْرِي

wa an ta`¥iman¢ f¢m¡ baqiya min `umr¢

and protect me [against sinning] in the rest of my life.

وَعُوذُ بِكَ ٱللَّهُمَّ

wa a`£dhu bika all¡humma

I seek Your protection, O Allah,

نْ عُودَ فِي شَيْءٍ مِنْ مَعَاصِيكَ

an a`£da f¢ shay’in min ma`¡¥¢ka

against that I may commit again any act of disobedience to You

بَداً مَا بْقَيْتَنِي حَتَّىٰ تَتَوَفَّانِي

abadan m¡ abqaytan¢ hatt¡ tatawaff¡n¢

as long as You keep me alive so that You will take me up

وَنَا لَكَ مُطيعٌ وَنْتَ عَنِّي رَاضٍ

wa an¡ laka mu§¢`un wa anta `ann¢ r¡¤in

while I am obedient to You and You are pleased with me.

وَنْ تَخْتِمَ لِي عَمَلِي بِحْسَنِهِ

wa an takhtima l¢ `amal¢ bi-ahsanih¢

I beseech You to seal my life with the most excellent of my deeds,

وَتَجْعَلَ لِي ثَوَابَهُ ٱلْجَنَّةَ

wa taj`ala l¢ thaw¡bah£ aljannata

decide Paradise to be my reward for that,

وَنْ تَفْعَلَ بِي مَا نْتَ هْلُهُ

wa an taf`ala b¢ m¡ anta ahluh£

and do to me that which befits You,

يَا هْلَ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَيَا هْلَ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ

y¡ ahla alttaqw¡ wa y¡ ahla almaghfirati

O He Who is worthy to be feared and worthy to forgive!

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

¥alli `al¡ muhammadin wa ¡li muhammadin

Send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱرْحِمْنِي بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا رْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

warhamn¢ birahmatika y¡ arhama alrr¡him¢na

and have mercy on me, in the name of Your mercy, O most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

Fifth: It is recommended to say the supplicatory prayer that Shaykh al-±£s¢ and Sayyid Ibn ±¡w£s reported to be said after offering a two unit prayer and imploring for forgiveness seventy times. This prayer begins with the following:( zia ussaleheen?)

All praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. All praise be to Allah, the Maker of the skies and the earth…

alhamdu lill¡hi rabb al`¡lam¢na alhamdu lill¡hi f¡§iri alssam¡w¡ti wal-ar¤i…

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ فَاطِرِ ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ وَٱلرْضِ…

In order to imitate the Commander of the Believers, Imam `Al¢ (`a), each believing man and woman is required to give alms on this day.

 It is also advisable to visit the holy tomb of Imam `Al¢ (`a) and it is proper to say al-Ziy¡rah al-J¡mi`ah (the Comprehensive Ziy¡rah), which will be cited in this book in the chapter of the comprehensive forms of Ziy¡rah.

And Allah only wishes to remove all abomination from you, ye members of the Family, and to make you pure and spotless.

innam¡ yur¢du all¡hu liyudh-hiba `ankumu alrrijsa ahla albayti wa yu§ahhirakum ta§h¢ran
